Scars
Into
Bars

Not walking into bars that leave scars. I'm turning my own scars into bars! My words need heard. #word

Turning pain into lyrics, one bar at a time. Not a sermon. Not a clinic. Just a woman in recovery, a pen, and a God who keeps showing up.

Hey, I'm Tish.

I'm a Kansas City woman, the owner of ItsTish™ LLC, and I'm in recovery. Some days are glitter. Some days are grit. Every day sober is a gift I give credit to Jesus for.

Somewhere along the way I found out the stuff that tried to break me makes a pretty good hook. So I write. I rap. I sing as TISH THE DISH™ — and I turn scars into bars.

This site is for you if you're fighting your plight right now. You're not too far gone, and you're definitely not alone. (Also: you're funnier than you think. Recovery needs that.)

The Steps + the Pen

Two stepping into 12 steps of sobriety! 🤠
And writing my wrongs into songs. 🎤
So many one-liners, but they're not white lines anymore!
Muddy waters, not seeing any otters. 🦦
The water is clear now, just like my mind. 💧

The 12 steps gave me a road. Writing gave me a way to walk it out loud. Here's how they work together for me — take what helps, leave the rest.

Honesty hits different on paper

Admitting it is step one. Writing it down makes it real — and somehow lighter.

Higher Power, higher verses

Faith isn't a vibe I fake. Handing it over is how I keep my hands free to write.

Inventory = lyric sheet

A fearless inventory is basically a first draft. The ugly stuff becomes the verse; the growth becomes the chorus.

One day, one bar

I don't need the whole album today. Just one line. Just one day. That's the beat.

Write Your Own Bars

You don't need to be a rapper. You need a pen and five honest minutes. Pick a prompt, set a timer, and don't edit yourself. Rhymes optional. Truth required.

"The thing I used to hide was ___, but now ___."
Write a letter to the old you. Start with "Baby girl…" (or "Hey man…")
Name one scar. Now give it a rhyme.
What would you say to God if you knew He was laughing with you, not at you?

✍️ Write your own bars

Pro tip: share it with your sponsor, your group, or your journal. Bars hit harder when somebody hears them.
